Ok, i'm not sure if this is where i should be posting a build error question, but none of the other forums seem appropriate.
my question/problem is: when i emerge gnome-extra/battstat i get an error, and i'm really unclear why.
ACCESS DENIED open_wr: /etc/sound/events/battstat_applet.soundlist
/bin/install: cannot create regular file `/etc/sound/events/battstat_applet.soundlist': Permission denied
and after all the make install-recursive stuff it gives me a nice little summary of the above error again, then it quits. as far as i know, /etc/sound/events/ is writable by root.. hmmmmm
any ideas? _________________ Peace love and penguins |

Maybe it's blocked by the libsandbox, but if the applet works you could create your own soundlist. It's just a file with some translations of messages:
note I use gnome 2 Beta5 but here goes anyway (without the translations):

ok, i'm relatively new to the world of source-based distros (debian owns me ). what's libsandbox? i've got a bunch of sandbox-battstat-2.0.10-r1-*.logs. they all contain "open_wr: /etc/sound/events/battstat_applet.soundlist"
how would i perhaps get libsandbox to unblock it? _________________ Peace love and penguins |

libsandbox is a library which protects your normal / (root) direcoty tree. Packages are build in /var/tmp and images should be installed into /var/tmp/(packagename)/image or something. Don't now if this is a bug in the battstat package or libsandbox or the emerge package. You could turn it of in the /etc/make.globals file (FEATURES="sand... or similar), I haven't had any problems with it though.
