|
|
I am running Gentoo 2.4.30 on a SunBlade150.
I have installed Gentoo and compiled and all and the machine boots (yeah!) but,
I had no problems getting on my network with the 2005.0 CD but can't figure out why my network config doesn't work from boot.
The machine doesn't seem to be loading the correct network card driver. I only have the built in network card in this machine.
Anyone know what the network card in this machine is and what module I need to load?
when I do a ipconfig -a all I get is the lo loopback interface.
Thanks in Advance

The SunBlade 150 Built-In NIC is a Sun GEM. To build it into the kernel edit your /usr/src/linux/.config and change the # CONFIG_SUNGEM is not set to CONFIG_SUNGEM=y or if you are using hotplug/coldplug or manually editing /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.x where x represents either 4 or 6 then you could set it to CONFIG_SUNGEM=m. Or if you prefer using menuconfig when you type make menuconfig in the directory /usr/src/linux. If you are using a 2.4 kernel then it is under Network Device Support / Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) ---> / Sun GEM & Apple GMAC support, for the 2.6 kernel it is under Device Drivers / Networking Support / Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) ---> / Sun GEM support. Once you have modified your .config file you will need follow the instructions in the Gentoo Handbook for compilling and installing the kernel found at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-sparc.xml?part=1&chap=7#doc_chap3. |
