|
|
After trying to run psybnc on a gentoo server and experiencing nothing but problems, I went to the psybnc dev team to troubleshoot the problem and they say the problem is glibc - that psybnc is only tested to work with <=glibc-2.2.
I attempted to downgrade to 2.2.5 but that destroys a system quite completely. I can't find a stage3 tarball with glibc-2.2 so now I'm taking the matter to the public to see if they have any ideas on how to either fix psybnc to run with >=glibc-2.3 or how to get glibc-2.2 installed on my colo. |

Is there a reason why you have to use psybnc?
There are (IMHO better) alternatives like muh and miau.
Or if you use irssi you could just use screen. _________________ Don't mess with the Penguin. |

at first glance neither seem as feature-rich as psybnc.
SSL support
multiple network support
multiple user support This may have been an SSL problem all along however. After disabling SSL client connection it seems to be stable. I won't know for sure for a few weeks though and I hate to give up client->bnc SSL connections.
psybnc is amazingly stable on BSD - shame I can't get it to run as well on my Gentoo colos.OpenSSL 0.9.7e 25 Oct 2004
glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1
gcc-3.3.5.20050130-r1
psybnc-2.3.2-7 |

I have same problem than u.
It worked very well during several months. Now it often locks itself. I cant connect to it anymore. The process is still runing though.
I have to kill-9 it and then restart it.
I guess this problem happened after an update. |

Is it a good idea to downgrade to glibc-2.2.* to test ?
Also, I recompiled with ntpl and ntplonly flags. Could it be the reason psybnc doesnt work well anymore ? |

The problem is related on the pysbnc forum, but no solutions until now. |
