I have the same problem. Though for me, it only hangs when I insert a specific card: My D-link DWL-650.

My current work-around is that I have to let pcmcia start at bootup. Then I bring it down, plug in the card, and bring it back up. The wierd thing, if it doesn't start at bootup, it hangs when I first start it. If I do things as I said, I can use my NIC without any problems, and cardmgr doesn't hang.

Anyone have any ideas?
