Hi all!
I thinking of using my gentoo desktop remotely from my work (windows machines there, but in some cases I'm able to reboot to live cd). Since I on a very limited bandwidth (32kbps international 64kpbs for national) I was wondering if I can do it (and if it's worth the extra money for real IP).
Ie remembered that I had tested the nx client on a dialup machine and it worked. So I made my mind to test it on my connection. But things are not going very smoothly. When I tried to emerge nxclient (along with all dependancies) I got stuck on nx-x11 (1.4.0-r4). The compilation crashes with this error:
Code: | sh: line 1: /tmp/imakehdd4m4: Permission denied
make[1]: *** [config/makedepend/Makefile.proto] Aborted
make[1]: *** Deleting file `config/makedepend/Makefile.proto'
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/nx-x11-1.4.0-r4/work/nx-X11'
make: *** [World] Error 2 |

Ooops! I've found it! It's bug #64439 - nx* cannot install if /tmp is mounted with noexec
Anyway Iĺl be grateful for any ideas how to be able accessing my data (and hopefuly programms) from work. I've considered the options of using ive" distros, but they don't seem to have all I want from them.
I had some ideas of vnc, but my connection speed is slow and I not sure if it'll work. _________________ hacker - A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary.
