|
|
Ciaran McCreesh had this wonderful guide on how to write ebuilds. It is by far the most clear and useful piece of documentation on the subject I've been able to find.
Unfortunately its gone now. The original link was http://dev.gentoo.org/~ciaranm/
What is going on? Where did this pearl of wisdom go?
Update: 5 June
Good news, the 'writing ebuilds' document is back online.
Find it here: http://dev.gentoo.org/~plasmaroo/devmanual/
Thanks to Ciaran and (I presume) plasmaroo.
For those interested, Ciaran has a post about his observations and concerns here:

Ciaranm was suspended for 60 days for abusive behavior.
More information will be available to devs and the general public in the near future; right now devrel is working on collecting permission from complaining parties to make their complaints public and bring some transparency. |

Why isn't it included in the developers docs? It would be much easier for people to find. |

It was a work in progress (a very good one at that), on it's way to becoming part of the official docs.. |

Uhm I won't go there because this isn't my business .
Is this reason to pull usefull documentation? I'd appreciate it if someone has a copy for download...
Even better, please please put it back on. _________________ * most bugs can be reduced to either dependency or state *

Ehm, ciaranm apparently wiped his homedir himself, see http://dev.gentoo.org/~ciaranm/ (esp. the 'support groups' part). |

We didn't pull it. Get in touch with Ciaran and ask him for a copy if you want it, I certainly don't have a copy handy... |

His blog was very interesting, beautiful and with a touch of british humor (all french love).
The .vimrc and .bashrc are cool.
I don't know what teh heck he does, but please don't be too hard with him, Gentoo need him. _________________ http://stan.openmod.org |

Also, judging from ciaranms behaviour in the past I predict we will hear his side of the story soon and elaborately.
Lets just hope his work on the ebuilds etc doesn't get the same treatment as his devspace home. Would be a bummer. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

I think it will for the time being. Hes probably quite pissed off judging by his comment on his devspace home. I want to know what happend, can other devs tell us more??? _________________ There is, a not-born, a not-become, a not-made, a not-compounded.
