Hello! I wanted to install KDE. So I watched and I tried to install the full KDE... But I canceled, because it takes to much time... Then someone told me, it's enough if I install kdebase - with emerge kdebase. But on the KDE homepage is written, that I need the following packages:
  • qt
  • arts
  • kdelibs

So, what it right now??

QT, and kdelibs come with kdebase. arts comes with it if you have the USE flag (Not sure about the default. You don't *NEED* arts.

You will have to install qt and kdelibs in order to install kdebase. I am pretty sure that you can install kdebase without arts...because I was able to. But if you are going thru the trouble of installing kdebase install arts too. then you have it. Installing KDE is a major thing in my humble opionion.

My theory is if you need anything above qt, you are in too deep and may as well install kde.

So kdebase should be enough. I'll try this one: ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pub/unix/X11/gui/kde/stable/latest/src/kdebase-3.5.4.tar.bz2

Thank you all for your help. :)

Okay! I downloaded it... Now there's a problem... :( I extracted and used ./configure then... It checked a lot of things and at the end, there was one error:
Quote:
configure: error: the important program mcopidl was not found!

And under this message, there was more...
Quote:
Please check whether you installed aRts correctly or use --without-arts to compile without aRts support (this will remove functionality)
...
After this, I thought everything is okay, but it wasn't so~.. I used make but it don't work... The problem is: in the kde folder is now makefile. :X

What now..?
