Hello
Yesterday I have been trying to install Gentoo on the HP e-pc c10. Install was done on a second pc, since this one doesn't have a CD-ROM drive. Then I put the harddrive back in, and it started up like a charm.
Some specs:

Pentium III-1000 CPU, 256MB of SDRAM, 256KB L2 cache, Windows 2000 Professional, 40GB hard drive, 24X-40X CD-ROM drive, integrated Intel 815 graphics, 17-inch HP 72 monitor, integrated sound, network adapter, compact case, HP's TopTools and E-DiagTools management software, three-year parts and labor warranty, free toll-call 24-hour tech support (ends after three years).

Now for my problem:
I cannot get an IP from my router with DHCP (network working ... :X). I dont know what it could be related to (driver problem, hardware problem.. something else)
I have done the following:
- Emerge pciutils
- lspci showed me I have a 3com 905c Vortex card (the onboard one was identified as this one)
- modprobe 3c59x
- added module 3c59x to autoload + modules-update (it does load)
- /etc/conf.d/net set iface_eth0="dhcp"
- /etc/resolv.conf set to nameserver 192.168.1.1 (IP of router)
- ifconfig -a shows me eth0 is there, ifconfig itself does not (dont know the difference)
/etc/init.d/net.eth0 (re)start gives me an [!!], and /var/log/messages gives me the error message that DHCP got a timeout requesting for an IP address..
Im seriously wondering what im doing here. Static IP is not an option. The conenction works, connected an XP laptop and another gentoo PC on it, works like a charm.
Any help would be appreciated |
