I have a Palm Treo 600 that I'm trying to sync with my Gentoo laptop. I've found that I can sync just fine if I run jpilot from the command line as root, but if I run it as a user (ie, from the K menu) it cannot connect. This is the output I receive:
Code: | ****************************************
Syncing on device /dev/pilot
Press the HotSync button now
****************************************
pi_bind Invalid argument
Check your serial port and settings
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND
Finished |
I have searched in the forums here and in Google and found lots of other people with the same problem. I have tried all of the suggestions I could find out there, but none have worked so far. Many things that I found suggested I should either change the permissions on the device (/dev/pilot is a symlink to /dev/ttyUSB1, which is a symlink to /dev/usb/tts/1) or add myself to the group that owns the device (usb). I have set the permissions to 0666 and added myself to the usb group, but still no luck.
This has to be a permissions problem of some sort, because as root I can do it but as a user I cannot. Suggestions?
Here's some info on my setup:
jpilot v. 0.99.7
kernel 2.6.11-gentoo-r8, with a few extra patches to handle my SD card reader.
devfs
KDE 3.3

Have you tried setting the permissions to 777? Not sure if that would make a difference, but it's worth trying. _________________ Underwater photo gallery
