|
i've decided to create a new install of Gentoo on my Athlon 64 box. Not for chroot, i mean full install. I'm going to experiment with it and i might eventually switch to it as my main installation.
what i want to know is what is the best initial configuration? i mean, should i download the athlon-xp, x86, or some other Stage tarball? What do i set the -march CFLAG to? not worried about CFLAG optimizations for now, but anything else i should configure in my make.conf or whatever would be helpful. _________________ Sheepdog

if you want a 64 bits system, you should download the x86_64 of whatever live CD/stage tarbal you want to use, and follow the 64 bit part of the handbook. I did a 64 bit stage 3 install, it went quickly and smoothly. I don't remember the specific CFLAGs &c., but they are explained in the manual as well.
Just give it a try!
