Hi!
I have a problem with Unreal Tournament (GOTY edition): I have no sound in the game! This is the messages it's show during loading:

...
Bound to ALAudio.so
open /dev/dsp: No such device
Audio initialization failed.
...

And this is my audio device:

bash-2.05b$ ls -l /dev/dsp
crw------- 1 bloo audio 14, 3 May 5 20:51 /dev/dsp

The device /dev/dsp is ok, I use it with many other programs! I also tried to make a "chmod 777 dsp" but the error is the same!
Any ideas?
Thanks!

The problem isn't that the file isn't there, it is that the software unreal is using isn't finding a device attached to that file.

If you're using ALSA (you probably are), do you have the OSS emulation loaded? Have a look through the output of "lsmod". You should have a module called "snd_pcm_oss" in there somewhere. Unless you compiled it into the kernel, in which case you'll have to check your kernel configuration.

Thanks guys! I fixed the problem with the OSS emulation!

For people that have same problem: you must enable these two option into the kernel:

-->Device Drivers -->Sound -->Advanced Linux Sound Architecture:
<M> OSS Mizex API
<M> OSS PCM (digital audio) API

Alternatively if you use the portage

alsa-driver

package for your drivers you need to re-emerge it with the oss flag and ut will work fine.
