I have som trouble regarding iptables in webmin, it says:
modprobe: Can't locate module ip_tables
iptables v1.2.7a: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
I have emerged the iptables, and recompiled my kernel and turned Network Packet Filtering on whích sould replace iptables.
Are their anything that im missing out on? |

You need to compile Netfilter support into the kernel, or as modules. Under "Networking options" enable "Network Packet Filtering (replaces ipchains)". Now scroll down in that screen to the sub-section labeled: "IP: Netfilter Configuration". Now hit enter on that. Now enable whatever you want/need in there. I personally enables all Netfilter options, and compiled directly into the kernel. I hope this helps. |

All? including ipchains (for 2.2 kernels) and fwadm (for 2.0 kernels)? |

did you compile them as modules?
I was having the same problem until i started building them as modules. I am not sure if I was doing somethig wrong or what. |

No I built them into the kernel... Maybe I shoud compile them as modules because I re emerged iptables after I compiled it into the kernel, but modprobe was still looking for the iptables module... Ill give it ago tonight compiling as modules. |

I've recompiled all netfilter as modules (off all experimental, and off ipchains and ipfwadm), re-emerged iptables and now it works. Now it's time to find some good configuration examples for my DMZ gateway. BTW, any advise besides official netfilter and gentoo docs? |
