|
|
I got me an old UMAX Apus 3000 Power Mac clone form ebay and thought it would be nice to have Gentoo on it. But I encountered some problems.
Everytime I try to install Gentoo on it locksup without or with one of these two error messages, kernel panic! mesh double dma or mesh reset.
I'm using BootX with the OW-Kernel and the livecd-2005.0. |

OK I found a pretty old version of the gentoo livecd 1.2 but I got same prob. Same with the Debian install disk.
Found somewhere here an CD-ROM of Beos 4.5, that installs fine and I had no probs with that, even under mac os there is no failure with that hd.
Seems the locup happens when there is traffic flowing to the hd.
I'll try to post the kernal panic asap.
Note: In the USA it was called SuperMac c600, may that helps. |

OK here are some Failure messages I got, the failure messages won't come up often 99% of the time it only hangs up without any message.
Code: | Kernel Panic: mesh: double DMA start !
Oops: Exection in kernel mode, sig:4 [#2] |
Yesterday I got a failur that was similar to this one, but I can't reproduce it
Code: | mesh: SCSI bus reset detected |
It had some numbers after that failure but I can't recognize then and as I said I was unable to reproduce that failure output.
I've tried to use the Force SCSI field in BootX but that had no effect. |

OK I tried this Kernel, but this one isn't finding a bootable device, so I think it looks like I've got a MESH.
Was looking to find some infos in the net if this clone got a MESH or not, but had not much luck.
So I took the OW-Kernal from this forum again and made a dmesg output, was little tricky but may that helps.

And it seems that the tulip module is broken, getting a sefmentation fault when the kernel tries to load it, but that's not the main prob....will install a realtek 8139 one later if we get the SCSI working. |

I'm using these:
Code: | ramdisk_size=32000 cdroot root=/dev/ram0 init=linuxrc loop=livecd.squashfs looptype=squashfs console=tty0 nodevfs udev |
Ramdisk 32000
using the initrd from the livecd-2005
other options in BootX are disabled |
