Hi! Can anyone please explain to me what are limitations on using Gentoo on sparc? For example can I use nptl latest gcc or it's only for x86?

thanks in advance.

obviously you will be unable to use things which are arch-specific for another platform. For example, if some software package contains PowerPC assembly code, you will beunable to run it on sparc.

Some hardware may also not work too well, such as some PCI graphics adaptors and such, even though there is a linux driver availbile for them since often these drivers are not platform-portable...

In my experience with linux on sparc (about 3 years), the only thing I've run into that I've really wanted to do but cannot is to run some game console emulators, which unforunately contain arch-specific assembly code to speed them up ....
