I am trying to print to a printer hosted by a Windows 98 machine from my gentoo box. The printer in question is a pnm2ppa based HP printer (712C), but I have followed all available instructions of setting it up.
The problem occurs when I try to print anything to the server. The only message I get is "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...: Success". The usernames and passwords are synced between the two machines. I have tried both clear and encrypted passwords, with no luck. The share has no password, either. I can't see why it's not working!
Please help! |

Exact same problem here. I can ping the computer with the printer, but I keep getting this error message when trying to send a test print. |

And the second I post that I solve it.
sburnett: To fix this I did the following:
Made my entry in my /etc/hosts match the win98 machines name.
Entered my linux server as a WINS server for the win98 machine in the TCP/IP properties. |

Thanks! That fixed it!
I didn't even have to set the WINS server. Simply setting the hostname of the machine to the NetBIOS hostname of the win98 machine fixed the problem. |
