Lately, I have had many things fail emerge. These include: texinfo across both Sparc and x86 architectures and xorg on x86. Someone really needs to look into this as Gentoo won't be a good solution if I cannot compile such basic things. Emerge world is not an optiion until texinfo is fixed, it's baseline. _________________ Compaq Proliant 8500R (7U Rackmount Form)

Gentoo-bashing is easy if you don't provide proof that it is Gentoo at fault, and not your setup.
Provide errors, --info, and any quirks your system may have. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

Texinfo on VMware + Native on a 1100 AMD/640mb/160G (ECS K7S5a 1.1) and a Sun Ultra 2 Enterprise (2x400USII/512/9.1G)
GCC and Glibc issues lately with both machines plus random compile problems on a Quad PIII Xeon system possibly due to bad 2.6.x level headers. BSD works fine on the quad system. Prolaint 8500R with 1GB. Quirks? you mean bad make install routines and missing headers, then yes. I'll try again today. _________________ Compaq Proliant 8500R (7U Rackmount Form)

GCC and GLIBC appear fixed on the PIII Xeon with today's builds. Compiling all 88 system packages 1/2 done and no errors. I'll keep you posted if anything changes. _________________ Compaq Proliant 8500R (7U Rackmount Form)

All 88 system packages merged successfully with no problems. Did exactly what was expected of it. Something might have been broken with glibc headers, which are the most important thing you can have. So that's it, p3 xeon issues as of today's base builds, work. As for the sparc, that's another project. Because I built Gentoo on my smp system as i686, I'll be tarring it up and archiving it and will get around to copying it to my amd system which will have its kernel recompiled as "athlon/k7" and a bootloader installed, which should be without a hitch. _________________ Compaq Proliant 8500R (7U Rackmount Form)
