hei all,
following a thread from https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-298406.html , we found out that mozilla and thunderbord (the java maybe) is somehow do not clean the memory and load it to incredible dimentions...
It is time to do something about this memory use! the excessive usage comes either from Mozilla, or thunderbird (also mozilla). Both are good programs and I want to keep using them, but have to do something about this memory usage. my memory meter says now 614 out of available 883. ouput from xfree gives :
Code: | total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 904492 864956 39536 0 188256 235916
-/+ buffers/cache: 440784 463708
Swap: 506512 12 506500
|
now, when I run matlab, and overflow the memory until it is full (with a huge variable for example), and then clean it, tadam! the memory meter gets back to 200-300 MB.
So how is it possible to fix this problem? NOTICE: I am talking about x86, not sparc. the problem is in sparc also.

In winxp, minimizing it solved the problem _________________ I'm not a Guru, I just ask a lot of questions. |

Minimizing what? mozilla or thunderbird? even if I shut them off, it does not do any change to the memory. The thing is, I dont really think that it uses so much memory. It either fills it with junk, or does something that makes 'free' and the memory meter report high memory usage. Even killing X does not solve the problem as 'free' reports the same high memory usage.
Again, Only when I clean the memory after loading it, using matlab takes back the memory to its correct usage, about 200MB. |
