Hi,
I was just looking a bit in my KDE System Guard for something, and I noticed that I had an instance of alsamixer running. I recalled opening it via "Run Command" thing, and then closing it again. It had 45 in the column of User% and a few (around 5) in the System%. Then I also noticed that artsd had a User% of about 35 and a System% of about 15.
I killed alsamixer, closed XMMS, and was in doubt of killing artsd. I though let's first write this post. Now artsd is down to 0 in both columns.
Anybody knows what's going on?
Greets
PS.
Maybe it's important: I configured XMMS to use the arts plugin, because I often plug in my USB headset to use that, and if I choose alsa I need to change some settings everytime I change from onboard to USB and vice versa.
PPS.
nForce 2. Don't got alsa in the kernel, but emerged alsa-config and built with ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0 usb-audio". Every time I switch from one to another I do
Code: | # /etc/init.d/alsasound stop
# rmmod intel8x0
# modprobe usb-audio
# modules-update
# /etc/init.d/alsasound start |
I don't know if this is right, but it works.

Could be you upgraded alsa-lib etc to 1.0.9, but have sound built into the kernel?
I had this with arts, and fixed it by dropping alsa-headers, -lib and utils back to 1.0.8..

Code: | # emerge -pv alsa-lib
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild UD] media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.8 [1.0.9_rc2-r1] -doc -jack 666 kB

I don't have anything alsa-related in my kernel, just "Sound Card Support". I'll try downgrading to 1.0.8. Thanks for the advice.

When I last used arts it had a habit of causing things like that. USE="-arts" fixed it quite well though _________________ What are you, stupid? |
