Is there a taskbar type app for fluxbox. I can't live without the ability to switch between my apps with a taskbar. The tabs are good, but they can't take the place of a task bar. Another thing, does anyone know how to get the wheel working on my logitech optical mouse?

The rox file manager allows you to set up a taskbar and desktop icons under fluxbox. Do a search on those keywords in this forum, I remember that there's a thread here somewehere that shows specifics.

BTW what's wrong with the buitl-in taskbar for fluxbox?

Oops, sorry forgot about your mouse probs. I have that very same mouse, here's my setup in /etc/X11/XF86Config :

Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

Make sure to restart X after altering settings.

Hope this helps

I had a feeling that rox may be able to do what I wanted to do. The reason I don't like the Fluxbox taskbar is because I can't use it to switch back and force between apps. Or can I? My mouse configuration is identical to yours, but my wheel still doesn't work. I know Curious couldn't get the wheel on his Logitech to work either.

Well, I still can't get my wheel working, but I did install rox. I couldn't find that post with the guide to configuring it. Does anyone know which post it is?

I can't find it either. I just made the switch to fluxbox from icewm, and the lack of a taskbar is making me scared and crying for mommy. OK maybe not that bad. The fluxbox taskbar only shows programs that are minimized. Alt-Tabbing through every program is a pain in the ass.

I also noticed that Alt-Tab only cycles through the programs in the workspace that aren't minimized. Plus minimized programs will be carried across workspaces. And another thing, Alt-Tab brings each app it cycles through to the foreground and leaves it there. This is the biggest nuisance. If I'm looking at something in mozilla and I want to test it out, I'll have to alt-tab a couple of times to bring up my xterm. I don't want it cycle through some other moz windows and gaim etc and when I get to my xterm I can't see the original moz screen because alt-tab left everything along the way in front of it.

Coming from IceWM, this seems pretty strange. Did I do something wrong? Can I get flux to not do this? Should I shut up and deal with it?

jcmkk;

By default that mouse comes with a usb connector. However, on my machine I connected it using a usb/ps2 adapter. How's yours connected?

BTW, the taskbar in fluxbox is made obsolete by tabs. Once you get used to using those, you'll never miss a taskbar:)

The ALT+TAB in fluxbox annoys me too. It also goes through all the tabs in a window. Unfortunatly I don´t know how to fix it.

I would go back to IceWM if I could move and resize windows with mouse+ALT. I really like to be able to do that.

I've already gone back to IceWM. Fluxbox looked nice, and it lead me to discover gkrellm, but in the end I couldn't stand the alt-tabbing and lack of a taskbar. I didn't look into rox because I didn't want to have to get more apps just to mimic my old WM.

Well it's my preference anyway. I'm sure others have things they dislike about Ice. No big whoop.
