I tried do this :
Code: |
rc-update del consolefont boot
|
but the problem is still there |
Ok, do a rc-update -s and check if there's something written behind consolefont - if there's something behind bootsplash try removing it from the appropriate bootlevel and check if this helps. My rc-update -s looks like this (only relevant part):
Code: | benson benson # rc-update -s
bootsplash |
checkfs | boot
checkroot | boot
clamd |
clock | boot
coldplug |
consolefont |
|
And please make sure that you're using the latest (masked) plashutils, currently this would be 1.1.9.3 - the old 1.x-versions wont work with the latest kernels!!!

What's going on, no problems anymore?
I installed and configured my new system (Aver TravelMate 8004MLi) at the weekend and it's sooo sweet! I love it!
But I think I'll switch back to the 2.9.11-nitro2 kernel because of the fglrx DRM modul or is there finally a working solution? _________________ I am /root and if you see me laughing you better have a backup. |

Yesterday I tried to switch back to 2.9.11 but I had the well known Nitro/Reiser4 boot problem with this release and so I'm still using this one. Funny, I never had boot problem. Con't care... but fglrx this release works perfect! _________________ I am /root and if you see me laughing you better have a backup. |

Ok, guys (um, &girls?) I was wondering if anyone would object if another __stable__ 2.6.11 based nitro would appear during the next week. I dont currently plan a poll, unless you want it, just post your thoughts on the subject ...
cheers

for me another "stable" Nitro is not necessary. Im running the 2.6.12 and its as stable as possible. No freezes, hang ups or crashs + it fixed a acpi problem that appears (as it seemed only on my system) with 2.6.11.
Maybe a new unstable nitro?

Isn't there a memory leak in this kernel. I sure do notice it. I couldnt get uptimes more than a day because a LOT of swap was being used by then. I also see a lot of swap being used after a couple of bittorrent downloads. I stopped Azureus and tried bittornado, and same result. If you could find out if there is a patch for this memeory leak, it would be great. I am using 2.6.11-nitro2 because of this.
Also if possible, could you include the driver for ipw2200 into the kernel, like you once did with the nvidia drivers. I have to recompile ipw2220 every time i install a new kernel. If its a trouble because you have to deal with firmware and stuff, just forget it.
Other than that, the current nitro release is pretty neat.
Thanks. |

I already said in this thread that it has memleak, interested ppl can dig out the lkml link i posted, a fix, if found, went probably into rc3 already, 2.6.11 didnt have it.... also, i wanted another 2.6.11 release because it doesnt have so many compatibility issues, i also was planning on doing more qa to nitro, which would mean cutting a few patches tho. but such drastic changes can only be done by seppe. i could simply do a 2.6.11-nitro7 or something to show a version bump tho. and btw, ck is being heavily maintained for release-kernels only, so cutting rc nitros would also be an option.
cheers

Maybe ACPI with SBS support is an option for an unstable release because I don't know how stable SBS is at the moment. SBS support should fix "Smart Battery" problems in newer notebooks like mine. _________________ I am /root and if you see me laughing you better have a backup. |

Hehe, everything works fine.
Tiger said he's working on it and I think we can believe him. Maybe he has a lot of work or something. _________________ I am /root and if you see me laughing you better have a backup. |

Lets just say i needed a few minutes downtime
I hope to start testing the new nitro during today, possibly also release...
But be warned: this release will be considered experimental eitherway, i simply had to put some new stuff
in since long time (these are the "under-the-hood" changes, no feature additions though i think... )
Reiser4 users are once more lucky, no USE flag needed __yet__, just because this will be experimental patch
(like every next until 2.6.12 is officially released)
cheers

Anyone know if this release has full support for ivtv and its corresponding modules?
I'm stuck at 2.6.5-gentoo-r1 for a kernel that works with ivtv. _________________ Tyan Tiger MPX 2466

I've got ivtv working with 2.6.11-nitro2, works just fine with my hppg pvr350. It's not the latest, but it would be an improvement against your 2.6.5.. |

Ok, good and bad news. Compiled the kernel cleanly (including the necessary ivtv modules!) and copied the necessary files over... the only problem is that:
I get the following when loading any modules:
Code: |
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.12-rc2-nitro1n/modules.dep: No such file or directory
|
Did I forget to do something?
I'm sure its a bonehead mistake. _________________ Tyan Tiger MPX 2466

During configuration there is a question which says
Code: | Local version - append to kernel release |
this gives you the option to add a version name and instead of choosing nothing you said "n" thinking it was waiting for a "no" response. See your kernel thinks it should be called 2.6.12-rc2-nitro1n |

Wow, that really was a bonehead mistake... whats the easiest way to fix it?
/edit:
I did check /lib/modules for anything related to 2.6.12, and there was nothing. Is that directory created at boot? _________________ Tyan Tiger MPX 2466

It's created when you do Code: | make modules_install | in your source dir. |
