I have a problem with this kernel!!! :(
The kernel compiles fine and works great, but when i emerge the ati-drivers (8.12.10) it dont create the module to be loaded. The emerge dont give me any errors.
I have the symlink set ok
Code:

linux -> linux-2.6.12-rc2-nitro1/

Short report. I got it. No problems compiling and switching to the new kernel.
Quote:
b3cks@fishbox b3cks $ uname -a
Linux fishbox 2.6.12-rc2-nitro1 #1 PREEMPT Sat Apr 16 14:45:11 CEST 2005 i686 mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP2400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

But fbsplash seems to be broken. It doesn't work for me but I'll try to fix it. Maybe it's my fault.

See ya later ladies...

Another high speed mirror has been set up: ;)

nitro-sources-2.6.12_rc2-r1.ebuild
patch-2.6.12-rc2-nitro1.bz2

Have fun! :)

This is a problem of 2.6.12-rc2 generally (vanilla), not nitro-sources.

After over 5 hours working with my system I can say that the kernel runs flawless but I found another problem. I have no drm module either. I think it's the same problem as 7seven7 has. glxgears brakes with "radeonWaitIrq: drmRadeonIrqWait: -16".

I get that too! (Using the vanilla kernel) :!: I hope that gets fixed soon...

Well, here's the errors I get when building ati-drivers...

Oy... It seems the 2.6.12 api for drm drivers has changed a bit. Haven't looked at this in detail since I don't have time, but my guess is that until ati releases a new driver (or someone releases a patch) it won't work.

And vesafb_tng runs just great here :/ As always... What is this breakage everyone talks about?

Ok, i updated the announcement message, hope this clears things up a little....

And as for fglrx, either try the ati ebuild from love-sources or tell ati to get this working with
new agp/gart/drm api.

cheers

parameter (see dmesg)

(ups, i forgot to see dmesg, but if you want, I will do it :) )

What's this fglrx from love-sources? Where can I find it?

Thanks,
Alex.

it's the ati driver....
fallow provided a modified ebuild for ati drivers which applies some patches to it, then it works
for __some___ people under 2.6.12-rc2 kernels. go to love-sources thread or ask fallow on irc.

T

PS: ma recommendation is however to buy a nvidia card, it works with vanilla nvidia installer from nvidia site
without any probs :P

Oh believe me, if I were as versed in linux as I am now, I would NOT have bought this ati card several years ago!

It is a pain sometimes... Oh well... :(

Nope, the ebuild didn't work for me. It compiled but upon loading the module, there's an unknown symbol: inter_module_get

Damn... I wish I had money for a nvidia card :(

inter_module_get is easy to fix .rc2 change . Im sure that Tiger can fix this easy.
This fix is in 2.6.12-rc2-love1 for example. Just reverse of inter_module_get changes.

btw. change gfx card to nvidia ;) hehe
cheers.

Hehe,
I can, as soon as im not on this goddamn livecd anymore!!!!!!!
And this can be another few days until i emerged and configured my whole system,
especially that i have to get used to all the specific gentoo features...but it rox, thats for sure..hehe
Then i just have to patch gcc so that it accepts the CFLAGS from my signature, we want the system stable ;) just to follow the anti-ricer hype everybody got infected with...

No success, even not with love-sources ATI drivers (also not with love-sources kernel). Radeon 9500 pro / Nforce2. I can't wait till next month when I'm going to buy an amd64 + NVIDA gfx! ;)

Okay, does anyone here in Canada, around Kitchener, Ontario want to exchange an Nvidia card for a Radeon 8500LE 64MB ram, works great in Linux (with stable kernel and drivers) for ut2004... and works flawlessly in windows every month or so when I reboot... lol

:( Stupid ati :(

Hey man, be glad you can actually take your card out of your system. I'm stuck with an ATI Radeon IGP320M, piece of * card - I really wish I had gotten an nvidia with this laptop. sigh. there's always next laptop...

Hey all. So it compiled and booted fine now (thanks!) but it seems my mouse doesn't work anymore. X loads up fine, and the cursor is there, but it won't move or click or anything. X isn't frozen, cuz I can use the keyboard to do stuff (and shift+numlock the cursor around). This is the same X config that has a working mouse in 2.6.11-nitro2, only the kernel is changing.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

hey ricky, this has happened to me with recent nitros/other kernels. you have to edit your xorg.conf and change the mouse device from mouse0 to mouse1, or vice versa. do a "cat /dev/input/mouse0" or mouse1 and try moving the mouse a bit to see which one is the actual device.

if someone could explain why this happens, that would be great.
