I use XFS. I just came from RedHat where I used ext3. I find XFS ALOT faster, but maybe it's b/c of all the optimizations I put in for Gentoo. In fact, that's probably it. Hmm... I wonder if it is faster

I played with XFS for a week until it ate my root partition without cause or provocation. I found it faster than ext3, yes, but slower than ReiserFS by a nice wide margin. If you haven't tried it, give it a shot.

And for the people that say it has corruption problems: (I've said this before) XFS has eaten 100% of the partitions I've given it, ReiserFS has eaten 0%. (Out of half a dozen or so for 4 months on average.) ReiserFS is faster too.

Funny, I've had the opposite experience. :) Been running XFS on my workstation since, oh, the first "stable" release; haven't had a problem with eaten partitions. I recently entrusted an 80 gig media archive to it, so maybe there's some mind-over-matter involved in this too ;)

ReiserFS, on the other hand, hasn't quite eaten any partitions, but I've had significant data corruption whenever I had to replay transactions.

Pretty sure this thread has run its course. I think ext3 vs. reiser vs. XFS is quickly approaching vi vs. emacs and linux vs. windows in the religious wars arena...

locking thread.
