I'm trying the love-sources now but I wanna know that the ati-drivers works correctly in the love-sources-2.6.12-rc2-r1 now? _________________ More Love~~More Dream~~More Happiness

Anyone here whose using this patchset with XFS filesystem? And can this guy tell me what experiences he made with the different io schedulers?
I'd like to know what IO or CPU scheduler is "best" for XFS, or better, fastest
So tell me if you've made any nice experiences...

i use reiser4 (much better than XFS when i tried it... because i lost too much data to XFS and it's huge buffers).
but right now I have an all genetic system and it is working great.
The entire system is generally faster, and I can compile two things in the background and do some heavy java programming while playing beep media player without any problem... The only problem though is that Xorg seems to lag behind my mouse cursor when I do this. But, i still consider it an improvement because with the other schedulers the window wouldn't move on demand, or be very coppy. |

Is anyone else experiencing problems with splash?
It seems i cannot get the splash to work (with splashutils)...i always get a black screen, my previous kernel though works fine... _________________ Gentoo the rising hope |

Even here.
I cannot see any image, only classic black background where text is scrolling.
When I type splash_geninitramfs -v -g usr/initramfs_data.cpio.gz -r 1024x768 debian-mist, it doesn't work because -r parameter isn't recognize : without it, this command works (no warning or error) but I don't know if the operation is complete.
Last kernel and splashutils that work for me (-r parameter included), are: 2.6.11-love2 and splashutils_0.9-pre10 (found on the web, packaged for debian)
Here, on 2.6.12-rc1-love1, I see this in dmesg
Code: |
Chiba:/home/io/work/linux-2.6.11# dmesg | grep fbs
fbsplash: console 0 using theme 'Debian-Mist
|
however, no image for fb. _________________ Il reggiseno e' uno strumento democratico perche' separa la destra dalla sinistra, solleva le masse e attira i popoli. |

Um, did you guys read fallows directions on emerging the new version of splash utils and re creating your initrd with it? And also, read up at spock's website, there is also a new format in kernel commands to use.

Splash works great here with the livecd-2005.0 theme from portage. Note that IIRC I had to unmask latest latest splashutils.
So, splash works awesome here!
I experience instability while emerging with nicksched (genetic) enabled. Works great with ingosched (surprise, surprise).
What happened with nicksched was that my system simply hardlocked (I *was* emerging 2 things at once... but that still shouldn't happen). So anyone else experiencing this?
What schedulers do you people use? What seems to be best stability/performance choice?
Thanks in advance,
Alex. |

Damn, I'm having some perfomance issues with the zaphod cpu-scheduler (I think that's the reason, or the latest cfq..). When I'm compiling something, or just starting something big, like Openoffice, the system becomes really laggy. Even the mouse-pointer doesn't move smoothly and I can hardly type something in gedit.
Well, I'll just test another CPU-Scheduler. Which one do you use? _________________ e17 documentation | Be free and use Jabber as your IM! | Combine IRC and IM |

afaik zaphod is good for server usage, but not for desktops
@ allex87 too
i use(d) gen4nicksched with default values and cfq-ts as io, no big probs with 2 emerges at once etc while copying 2 kernel-trees and listen to music.
but switched to ck and so to staircase11, which pretty much owns! even with reiser4 (unbelievable..), which makes me keep my r4 partitions even i already decided to get rid of them _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

Hi i was using love sources for quite some time, but these gave me a serious problem
ipw2200 kernel modules dont compile with these latest version.
I tryed with regular gentoo-sources (with a reiser4 patch i put in myself) and the compiled clean
See what u can do. if u need the result from compile errors ill be glad to help u.
Oh and btw (off-topic) , the ati ebuild works fine, but since i have a Acer Travelmate 8104 my graphics card is a x700 and my lcd is 15,4 wide and makes 1680x1050. All looks good until i installed the ati-drivers and went to x: the lcd went crazy, like if it was slightly off sync... I search google for correct modelines for my monitor and tryed a few...no result... Then i switched to VESA and the image curruption disappeared (horizontal lines in vertical columns moving very fast).
If by any means anyone has a solution to this, il be glad to hear it |

good question
Lovechild and I , We are against reiser4 support in love and We are with kicking out many of crappy/untested/buggy patches. And aslo my state is to not countinuing genetic nicksched because genetic implementaton port doesnt give any bennefit to it at the moment .
A lot of people are liking reiser4, genetic nicksched etc.
Our idea is different than actual love. Many of people has other opinion.

I think I know why the splash stuff is not working.
There is no option for initial initrd under block devices?

ipw2200 is supposed to be in this set right? I can't find the kernel option. I haven't used this card in linux before so I'm not sure about setting it up.
From the sound of things I'll have to move to another kernel since the only reason I'm here is the Reiser4 support. I'll probably just learn how to patch gentoo-dev-sources. _________________ Dell 600m Pentium M 1.5 Ghz, 512MB, 40GB, ATI M9

I'm on x86_64 here.
There were a few problems with pci, I had to comment out some code to get it to compile (multiple declarations for a function).
I don't think ATI works... it doesnt compile, and using your ebuild, it compiles, when I restarted X the computer locked up. |

Just switch to JFS or XFS or something, RR4 is not worth the trouble. It also looks like you don't have the newest hardware - RR4 is known to actually kill disks with even the slightest defects. Good luck. _________________ I'm not a Guru, I just ask a lot of questions. |
