Hi all. I've compiled the ltmodem drivers many times without problem
(acer txv734 travelmate). but with the 2.6.11 kernel it won't work.

emerge ltmodem works. I can then modprobe the ltserial and ltmodem
modules. This creates a /dev/ttLTMS14 (whatever the hell that is) and
a symlink to that bizarre node from /dev/modem.

The instructions at the end of the compile tell me that the node
ought to be the good old /dev/ttyLT0. (nice documentation there --- not)

Anyway, kppp is "unable to open the modem" and minicom just
spews: cannot open /dev/modem: No such device or address

If I force minicom to use /dev/ttLTMS14 (whatever the hell that is) I
get the same message:

I guess this is called progress in the kernel ... any advice would be welcome
since I'm probably missing something obvious
(yea, I know I can boot the old kernel but really ...)

sorry to reply almost instantly to myself ...

but after I forcibly removed /dev/ttLTMS14 and
reinserted the lt modules, lo and behold,
the proper /dev/SLT0 was created and the
modem worked ...

anyone know what's going on

will this dog bite me again?
