Hi, here's a tip to make loading programs up to 50% faster.

Read this howto and use prelink.

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/prelink-howto.xml

Good luck!

I do not even want to bother with all these hassel to have a Prelinked system: I really do not care about the first startup slowness of my KDE, anyway, I always only have to wait once per day for my KDE loading. Even if I want to exit KDE and reenter, after the first time of KDE starting, the loading speed is the same as the prelinked one (I assum, or even faster, please correct me if I am wrong), for the KDE is cached in my RAM ;)

How about other applications? Like firefox, openoffice, etc. Prelink makes them faster also.

Yes, faster, but only it counts the first time, after you have started it before, or have a running instance, you can not see any differences, can you?

I really do not mind the first time an app starting takes some time.

As far as I can tell, you have to re-prelink all your apps after you upgrade one of the core packages, such as gcc, gblic. That makes me resistent to prelink even more...
