I emerged cups, got my printer configured through localhost:631, printed a test page, and configured CUPS in the KDE control center. I was also able to print a test page from there. However, I can't print from a kde app (Kate or Konqueror). The app freezes and I have to kill it through system guard.

I emerged kde with USE="cups" in /etc/make.conf. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA,
Erich

When I launch Konqueror or Kate, I receive this error message:
"mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding"

If I try to print from Konqueror or Kate whether using CUPS, LPR/LPRNG, LPD, etc. (it doesn't matter), the app freezes and I receive this error message:
"WARNING: KLocale: trying to look up "" in catalogue. Fix the program
KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = konqueror path = <unknown> pid = 4187
Alarm clock"

Huh?

Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Erich

I found the solution in a bug report at kde.org. Had to recompile kdelibs without the "-funroll-loops" flag. Now I can print from KDE apps with no problem!
