|
|
Hi All. I've searched and yet I have no answer.
I have upgraded from Gentoo 1.3 to 1.4. New HD and all. the problems are thus:
Built ALSA and it's packages, rebuilt the kernel, did depmod -a, etc...
So, Modprobe can't find the modules, "modprobe snd-via8233, via82xx, etc. The modules are there. So, how do I tell modprobe where to look? Or where are they REALLY supposed to be kept?
The second thing is the ALSA installed fine on the 1.3 box (20 min or so) now I am perplexed.
I understand the Gentoo ALSA guide is a bit out of date, but the steps are the same, I think.
The mainboard has a VIA 8233/AC97 chipset. KDE 3.05.
Any and all help appreciated.

You're probably going to need to do an emerge alsa-driver, as rebuilding kernel modules removes the alsa modules in most cases.
Cheers! |

OK, re-emerge the kernel sources solved the problem of MOdprobe and the sound modules.
Now the problem appears to be with KMIX. It loads but the window is greyed out. I suspect it's a permissions thing.
I have set all the permissions and user perms.
What did I miss?
Thanks |
