I actually get this firefox thing with a quite a few other things. It is very annoying. I am going to try to emerge firefox again.

Please see pussi's post: you must upgrade firefox and thunderbird so you'll be able to upgrade freetype (needed for a recent gimp). You must also unmerge gimp to install gimpshop... Have a good cofee while you upgrade all this, or perhaps you own an 8 processor box

this is going to take a while ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............................. see you guys tommorow

When I compiled Gimpshop using the ebuild it still appears in the old format. Does compiling it directly from source seem to fix this or is the linux source broken?

The old format is kept; only the menu layouts are changed.

As already stated at bugs.gentoo.org:
James.P.Barrett wrote:
It seems to me that a better way of handling gimpshop would be as an option for the gimp-2.4.4.ebuild controlled by a package-specific USE variable "gimpshop". You'd need a patch file to transform the raw gimp source into the gimpshop source, but diff should produce that easily enough.
I think the man has a point here. Just a set of patches in case you want it added your regular gimp, does sound appealing. That way you won't run into trouble with blocked packages etc

I made another ebuild. With this, I introduce a new use flag called "gimpshop". Using this, you can simply
Code:
USE="gimpshop" emerge -pv gimp

or
Code:
echo media-gfx/gimp gimpshop >> /usr/portage/package.use
emerge -pv gimp

to emerge the photoshop version of gimp.

It should work out of the box ;-).

[edit2]
The use flag is 'gimpshop' of course, not 'gimpshot'. I corrected that typo. Oh, leaving the use flag out will then of course install gimp-2.2.4 without the photoshop look and feel.
[/edit2]

[edit]
Don't forget to
Code:
ebuild gimp-2.2.4.ebuild digest

first.

Another thing: Does anyone know how to download the "ltmain_sh-1.5.0-fix-relink.patch" directly to the files directory instead of /usr/portage/distfiles?
[/edit]

You should probably rename the patch gimpshop instead of gimpshot.

And why do I need gimp-print-4.2* instead of 5.0_beta? I've downgraded it but it'd be nice if I could use the 5.0 ebuild

However thanks for the ebuild! The app looks great

I based my ebuild on the one for gimp-2.2.3, which was the latest at that time. As that uses gimp-print-4.2, my ebuild does too. I do not use gimp-print myself (I do not have a printer ;-)), but you can easily change the ebuild yourself.

[edit]
I changed the ebuild. Redownload the ebuild and try.
[/edit]
Then you have to
Code:
ebuild gimp-2.2.4.ebuild digest

again before emering.

That should install the latest version of gimp-print available on your system. You will probably have unmask to get the version you want.

I have not tested this!

It's the problem that you can't extract the tbz archive. These steps should fix this.
Go to your distfiles dir (might be /usr/portage/distfiles/) and rename the GIMP*.tbz in .tbz2
Open the GimpShop-eBuild and replace the two 'tbz' with 'tbz2'.
Make 'ebuild gimpshop-2.2.4 digest' again and than emerge gimshop.

Thanks a bunch! Worked perfectly. I was wondering, is there a tool so I can extract tbz's also beacuse all these other people didnt have this problem and sometime in the near future i will probally have the same problem and I was figuring it would be much nicer if a tool could just extract it as a tbz.

Building now :)

Worked fine once I stopped editing the copy I downloaded in my home directory and edited the one in /usr/local/portage!

Wouldn't a fetch restricted ebuild be the best for now? Instructions could be given in the ebuild to download to distfiles and rename..

just a though

No problem. I wondered myself too, because everybody posted "Works... Works... Works..." and I asked wtf? Why doesn't work it for me? But I noticed the many "No such file or directory" erros and thought "Okay he it seems he doesn't extract...hm...". I tried to extract it manually but it doesn't work either and so I googled a bit and found this little "trick".

I was told that the preferable way of making overlay ebuilds, it _not_ to use '/usr/portage/distfiles' for the patchfiles. So, the ebuild is installed like that:

1. Copy the ebuild to your overlay directory.
2. Get this patch and copy it to gimp's files directory, in your overlay
3. Copy 'ltmain_sh-1.5.0-fix-relink.patch' from gimp's files directory from portage to gimp's files directory in your overlay
4.
Code:
ebuild gimp-2.2.4.ebuild digest
USE="gimpshop" gimp

5. Enjoy!

sorry for being a bit ignorant, but is an overlay directory something i create in /usr/portage/media-gfx? or is it just the media-gfx/gimp directory?
