Hi i just wanted to let you guys know that i've created an ebuild for ILM's OpenEXR, it's a new HDR file format that ILM has created.
It's released under the Modified BSD license.

If you wan't to check it out you can download the ebuild from http://xl.hatch.dk/OpenEXR-1.0.4.ebuild

Make a directory called OpenEXR in portage/media-libs copy the ebuild to the directory, and run ´ebuild OpenEXR-1.0.4.ebuild digest´
And then emerge OpenEXR :)

Best regards

Wow... It appeared on slashdot and then is available in ebuild form by the end of the day... Must be a record!

...Now if it's in the portage tree when I rsync when I wake up I'l be REALLY suprised ;)

Meh... who am I kidding.. I don't expect to see it in portage for a couple weeks...

Actually i have the same problem, i'm not sure why configure fails when looking for fltk.
Hopefully somebody can figure out what goes wrong.

Hmm... I found a way to get it to work but I had to modify the ./configure script.

I have to check and see if everything compilies correctly first, then I'll post the changes I made..

Okay, I don't know if my patch to the configure file will make it work or not, but if someone could try my other idea... Change the ebuild src_compile section so it looks like this:
Code:

src_compile() {

        ./configure --disable-fltktest || die
        emake || die
}

and see if that builds it correctly. It dies somewhere in the middle (on an unrelated issue) so I can't test my patch or this idea at the moment.

I tried with --disable-fltktest and i get the same result, the compiler stops when trying to compile exrdisplay.
As far as i can see it's related to fltk, i tried making a symbolic link to /usr/include/fltk-1.1/FL in /usr/include and that makes the compiler continue a bit further but it still dies, saying ld: cannot find -lfltk_gl

I've tried adding --with-fltk-prefix=/usr/include/fltk-1.1 to configure, but it still doesn't find the fltk libs.

I imagine the best way would be to patch the files to search for the headers in the right directories...
I understand why it doesn't work but the perfect solution is still eluding me..

My error is related to fltk, but i have no idea why yours fails like that.

Alright, I got the fltk thing figured out I think. Just skipping the test doesn't work because it doesn't know where to look for the fltk headers and libs. I modified the ebuild and made a patch so that it will patch the configure script to correctly detect fltk. Whoever decided to hide fltk like they did wasn't very smart....

Well, I'm TRYING to test it out.. and I'm pretty sure it will work, except I keep getting that eror.

I'd like to try that patch to see if it works here, i've been tinkering with configure and i can't get it to detect fltk no matter what i try.

But is it a problem with the way fltk is installed or is it the configure script that's broken?

Both ;)

The way fltk is installed doesn't work well with the way the configure script expects fltk to be installed. That is why I THINK it should work like this, but it needs to be tested to make sure the path changes get set correctly for the makefiles.

Here is the new ebuild:
Code:
# EBuild for ILM's OpenEFX-1.0.4
#Created by HaTcH and Drakonite

S=${WORKDIR}/${P}
DESCRIPTION="ILM's HDR image file format libraries"
SRC_URI="http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/openexr/OpenEXR.pkg/1.0.4/${P}.tar.gz"

HOMEPAGE="http://www.openexr.com"

SLOT="0"
LICENSE="Modified BSD"
KEYWORDS="x86"

DEPEND="x11-libs/fltk"

PATCHDIR=${WORKDIR}/patches

src_unpack() {
   unpack ${A}
   patch ${WORKDIR}/${P}/configure ${FILESDIR}/OpenEXR-1.0.4_configure.diff || die
}

src_compile() {

   ./configure || die
   emake || die
}

src_install () {

   dodir /usr/bin
   dodir /usr/share/man/man1

   make \
      DESTDIR=${D} \
      BINDIR=${D}/usr/bin \
      MANDIR=${D}/usr/share/man/man1 \
      LIBDIR=${D}/usr/lib \
      install || die

    dodoc README INSTALL ChangeLog LICENSE
}

Here is the patch, save it as "OpenEXR-1.4.0_configure.diff" in the files directory of the OpenEXR directory of the portage tree:
Code:
9570,9571c9570,9571
<     FLTK_INCLUDES="-I$fltk_prefix/include"
<     FLTK_LIBS="-L$fltk_prefix/lib"
---
>     FLTK_INCLUDES="-I$fltk_prefix/include/fltk-1.1"
>     FLTK_LIBS="-L$fltk_prefix/lib/fltk-1.1"
9574,9575c9574,9575
<     FLTK_INCLUDES="-I$prefix/include"
<     FLTK_LIBS="-L$prefix/lib"
---
>     FLTK_INCLUDES="-I$prefix/include/fltk-1.1"
>     FLTK_LIBS="-L$prefix/lib/fltk-1.1"

Let me know if it works or not....

And does anybody have any ideas on how to fix the problem I've been having?

I works perfectly here :)
The exrdisplay app compiles and works the way it should now.

If it's okay with you i'll submit both the .ebuild and your patch to bugs.gentoo.org, so they can be merged into the portage tree.

I works perfectly here :)
The exrdisplay app compiles and works the way it should now.

If it's okay with you i'll submit both the .ebuild and your patch to bugs.gentoo.org, so they can be merged into the portage tree.

Woohoo! Sounds good to me... It'll be the first ebuild I've ever worked on that made it to portage... Well... Actually it's the first ebuild I've ever worked on period... And the first patch I've ever made too.... I just wish I could get OpenEXR to compile so I could see it work :cry:
Meh, oh well. Get it in the portage tree and eventually someone will have my problem and figure out how to fix it ;)
