This isn't gentoo specific... But hopefully no one will get upset about me asking..
I have a chaintech 6aja4 mobo that has a connector on it for connecting an IR port. The problem is, I know nothing about computer IR and can't find info on adding cheap IR support to my computer.
What little is said about the IR connector leads me to believe I should be able to set up IR support a lot cheaper than what it costs to buy any of the IR stuff I've been able to find (which all seem to include everything...)
My question is... What do I need to do/buy to set up IR using that conector? I've seen some info on homebrew IR ports on the LIRC page, which seems like it might be a good solution, but I have no idea what those chips are, or how much they cost, or even which type I would need to make (BTW, I do know how to solder and have a some knowledge in electronics... so homebrewing doesn't bother me as long as it isn't very expensive
....and to make this have to do with gentoo.... Has anyone had much luck using lirc on gentoo, specifically with xmms or xawtv? _________________ Shoot Pixels Not People

yes indeed!
i'm using the creative cimr100 ir receiver (comes with the dxr bundle i think). it's very cheap, looks cool and works fine.
the only problem i came accross was having to manually make the /dev/lirc device - it would appear that it's not devfs friendly yet.
Code: |
mknod /dev/lirc c 61 0
