Waaagh!TV for Linux
Waaagh!TV, or wtv, is a small tool, which allows you to watch warcraft3 matches. it was portet to linux and works fantastic. it already replaced my TV.
the poeple who greated the tool didnt had support from blizzard - they formed this nice piece of software by guessing what the packages means which were send by a warcraft in a lan game. dont ask me how, but they managed to "emulate" lan games on your computer with their tool - the game is streamed into your lan and it looks like you are playing a lan game as spectator. that means you dont need bandwidth and trafic eating video stream - it consums nearly no trafic (like playing an online game).
if you ever dreamed on watching warcraft in tv? here we go!
to the famous games is often a shutcast awailable. i havent tried that yet.
Installation
first of all you need warcraft: the frozen throne - of course. but i think you would not read this without owning a copy of warcraft3.
we come to the the "wtvclient". i think there is no offical ebuild atm - and i dont have the time to lern how to do that. it seams not be realy hard but... ok i think most of all im too lazi (but im honest) i didnt found something neither in the forum nor in the bugzilla. if someone likes it as much as i do and can already write ebuilds.. it will be realy easy. there is only one bin file to copy
here is the howto from the waaaghtv homepage.
TODO: the-gentoo-way:
on a gentoo mashine: (i just think about if it is maybe easier to do an ebuild than writing this stuff?!? nooo .... )
- we need wxGTK. i guess its enough to set the wxwindows useflag, maybe its enough to emergel x11-libs/wxGTK i dont know. please report me your experience.
- then download the linux version
- install place it in /usr/games/bin/ (or where ever you want). i set it to the games group.
- start the program. a config file will be created in the directory where you start the program! thats a bit mad, but as waaagh!tv isnt open source we have to life with it
. if its too anoying for you tell the coders in the waaaghtv forum about it
Configuration
--- to be continued --- (i realy have to go to bed now )
if you cant wait, have a look into the howto on the waaagtv homepage.
