will be ready ASAP, don't worry, this means that it will be available for download in a day or less

Hehe, I didn't want to ask the magic question ("When is it ready???") ... because of course I know, it's ready, when it's ready...
Nevertheless, I just wanted to tell, how excited I am _________________ Las torturas mentales de la CIA |

why using tar is a bad idea? I never heard a thing like this. I'm using tar since I was a kid and I never encountered problems. In my opinion tar is easiest to use. |
tar isn't a bad idea "in general" (it's actually brillaint ) but for moving data to a reiser4 partition.

not seeing anything about chipset support in your changelog.
did you compile a kernel with support for a lot of IDE chipsets this time?
(and no, the last cd had some AGP chipsets, not ATA chipsets ). |

tar isn't a bad idea "in general" (it's actually brillaint ) but for moving data to a reiser4 partition.
|
Here the quote:
Quote: | This effect is observed if the measured file set was produced by untarring some archive created not from a ReiserFS partition (or by copying files from a non-ReiserFS partition or by running a program that writes a bunch of files in some order). This is because the readdir() operation performed on the ReiserFS partition returns file names not in the original write order but rather in some hash order (dependant on the hash function used). Thus when reading files' contents the hard drive heads must move when going from one file to another. Mind you this "benchmark" is barely representing any real workload, but if you really want ReiserFS to outperform any other filesystem in your setup here is one solution: Copy the entire directory that you are not satisfied with to the same partition but with a different name (this can be achieved by the cp -A command), then remove the old directory and rename the new one with the old name. If the partition does not have enough space available, another approach is to tar up the whole partition, clear it, and then untar the previously saved data.
|
Well, my tar operations were across reiser 3.6 and reiser4 partitions. And if there should be speed problems, the solution is to tar and untar root directory again, right ? _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

reiser3 -> reiser4 should work fine, but a lot of people arn't on reiser (my laptop for example was on xfs), and tar'ing it down should work fine, also a simple cp old new && rm -rf old && mv new old on all files in / should work perfectly fine (for those who couldn't guess it, do it from a boot cd, not running system ,) ). |

I have an Asus A7NX-X nforce2 motherboard that will not boot this version of the livecd, even though 1.0 worked fine.
I get this far, then it never boots farther (typing from another screen).
cx89x0: no cs8900 or cs8920 detected. Be sure to disable PnP with SETUP
I had this same problem with the RIP cd, even though the gentoo cd's work fine.
Shouldn't we leave the network cards as modules on the cd, and let pci hotplugging detect them? |

I'll surely fix that, don't worry !

Grazie mille ^_^
Saluti
Code: |
livecd / # lvcreate -L 1500M -n lvos vg1
/dev/cdrom: open failed: Read-only file system
/etc/lvm/backup: fsync failed: Invalid argument
/dev/mapper/control: open failed: No such file or directory
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
Failed to activate new LV.

Per completezza, riporto i passi da me compiuti:
con fdisk ho cambiato il tipo del mio /dev/hda3 in Linux LVM (8E)
Code: |
livecd ~ # pvcreate /dev/hda3
/dev/cdrom: open failed: Read-only file system
Physical volume "/dev/hda3" successfully created
|
Mmhh...non e' piacevole...ma continuo comunque
Code: |
livecd ~ # vgcreate vg1 /dev/hda3
/etc/lvm/backup: fsync failed: Invalid argument
Volume group "vg1" successfully created
|
Code: |
livecd ~ # lvcreate -L 1G -n lvos -v vg1
Finding volume group "vg1"
Creating logical volume lvos
Archiving volume group "vg1" metadata.
Creating volume group backup "/etc/lvm/backup/vg1"
/etc/lvm/backup: fsync failed: Invalid argument
Found volume group "vg1"
/dev/mapper/control: open failed: No such file or directory
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
Failed to activate new LV.
|

Hm, I seem to be a little lost here. I have just downloaded the V1.2 image, and tried to boot this livecd.
But the first thing it tells is: Code: | ISOLINUX 2.08 2003-12-12 Copyright (C) 194-2003 H. Peter Anvin
Gentoo Linux 2004.0 Livecd http://www.gentoo.org/
Enter to boot; F1 for kernels F2 for options.
boot:
Available kernels:
gentoo
gentoo-nofb
smp
smp-nofb
memtest86 |
When I use "gentoo", it starts with kernel 2.4.25-gentoo, when using "smp" its using 2.6.5-gentoo. It then complains about missing /lib/modules/... because there is only /lib/modules/2.6.9-rc-mm2. During boot I can see the spash-image of 2004.1.
So how do I start using kernel-2.6.9-rc1-mm2 ??? _________________ Las torturas mentales de la CIA |

Ok, that was weird! I used a CDRW, so I thought maybe something went wrong during the burning, so I used another CDRW, burned again, and now it's working...

Yeah, CDRWs are little annoying sometimes, better use DVD+RW, they have bigger space and, they're FAST.
For those who have problems, version 1.3 is COMING! _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

Looks like I got happy too soon, it's not booting, when starting hotplugging, it can't load module aic79xx (using an ADAPTEC 19160 SCSI-adapter).
Can you please add this module in V1.3?
BTW As it didn't go futher, I don't know if it is already integrated, but can you please check, if the libata module for Sata Sil is included, as well as support for msdos filesystem and floppy support (I remember the love-livecd missing floppy support)? _________________ Las torturas mentales de la CIA |
