hi

i've wanted to install gentoo for a long time, but one thing is keeping me back. my laptop has the ipw2200 card, and the gentoo install does not detect this. so i need to figure out a way to get it to do that. i have the source on another partition but i can't compile it because i can't download anything. i also have the .ko files for the 2.6.11 kernel i'm running right now.

i also have a realtek 8139 ethernet card in here, but i'd really really really like to not have to use this and do it from the wireless connection.

what can i do??? please help i feel like i'm missing out here.

hopefully the developers see this and include the ipw2200 files in the install cd.

One solution would be to install Gentoo using a different LiveCD (i.e. one that supports your wireless hardware). I'm sure the latest KNOPPIX CD, or one of the many unofficial Gentoo CDs would be able to do this.

Another solution would be to do a networkless Gentoo installation (or use your wired ethernet), and then setup wireless networking later, when you are able to compile the driver.

Yes, I would try the RR4 Gentoo LiveCD, or Knoppix, and if they detect your hardware, you're good to go.
