Can any portage files be safely excluded form a backup?

For instance, the portage/distfiles dir here is almost a gig.

thanks.

You can delete the distfiles anytime you like to...

Just keep in mind that if you need to rebuild anything the sources will be downloaded again....

You may be able to exclude all the ebuild files, as long as you are will to do an emerge rsync after you restore your system

Hope that helps

Mike

thanks - running Mondo on an 866 P3 can be tedious with an unneeded 1G+ of data added on for fun.

Yes, I initially had the Portage tree Mondo-backup, but when it gave all kinds of fstab, and config errors, I noticed it was gawdawfully old, and went to the Mondo site.

I grabbed a current stable tarball of Mondo and Mindi, and things are fine now.

To get the gentoo Mondo working, I had to comment out the fstab line for my CDROM(dvd) drive.
