|

Hi all,
I have tried to install a Cisco Aironet 350 PCMCIA Wireless card on a Dell Insipron 8200 but I cannot manage to have it working.
As I did for another card (Orinocco Gold), I didn't compile PCMCIA support into the kernel and emerged pcmcia-cs, pcmcia-cs-drivers and pcmcia-drivers-tools.
I added the following into modules.autoload :
Code: | pcmcia_core
i82365
ds
airo
airo_cs |
When I start pcmcia - /etc/init.d/pcmcia start - There's no error and cardmgr starts well.
When I do a cardctrl info I can see the Cisco card.
But when I do a iwconfig, the eth1 interface, the one created for the pcmcia card has no wireless support.
Doing a /etc/init.d/net.eth1 or dhcpcd eth1 just finish in a timeout ...
Any idea ?
Thanks ... _________________ EPFL

Setting up Aironet cards is easiest if you grab the driver package from Cisco. Then make sure you have the following set up in your kernel:
PCMCIA Support is Off
Under Network Devices --> Wireless LAN,
Wireless Lan is [*], but nothing else is on.
Compile your kernel, then emerge pcmcia-cs.
After than, untar the Cisco drivers into a directory, cd into it, and run:
That will automatically compile the drivers and install them.
Then edit you net.ethX init script to make sure that under depend() you have "need pcmcia".
You should be good to go from there - even with LEAP networks (just use the leapset or leapscript utilities for that). Also make sure to fire up the acu program and edit your card's settings. |

You ever get the problem fixed? Check what firmware you have on the card - I just went through serious issues with mine and eventually tracked it back to the fact that you should not upgrade the firmware in the card to the 5.xx series yet. Can cause serious problems with Linux, so if you don;t have that firmware, switch back to 4.25.30. |
