The same thing happens to me using development-sources-2.5.59, I get the ext2 (using ext3) errors and a freeze after starting local. Is this the kernel you are using? Usually I can figure messes like this out, but after 2 hours I ended up unmerging the development kernel sources and just using 2.4, until it's straightened out. In case you didn't try yet, I have none of the same problems using gentoo-sources-2.4.19-r10. |

Actually, I am using gentoo-sources 2.4.19r10. I was thinking of changing my fs type to reiser. Copying my /root to another partition, reformating, and then moving /root back. Could Possibly work. |

If you find a solution independant of this forum could you possibly post it here so I can avoid having to recreate this topic? I'd love to boot into that beta kernel and muck about

Copying my /root to another partition, reformating, and then moving /root back | Not sure about reiserfs, but I've done this successfully with XFS->ext3 and vice-versa, but I did it a little differently. Instead of cp I found dump/restore (and xfsdump/restore) to pull this off with only a few config edits (ie fstab) once you're done. Will your /boot partition still be ext2/3? It would probably isolate the problem to be ext2/3 specific if you changed both /root and /boot to reiserfs and it worked... I wonder if you couldn't just dd if=/dev/OLD of=/dev/NEW to transport your data, but I'm a noob so who knows... |
