Hey,
I was wondering if it is possible to make a hard drive image of a linux system?
The reason I ask is because I want to setup a server, however, I am still learning linux. I want to setup a fresh linux install, then make an image and burn it on CD. The start messing around with config files and install / test out different programs. I want to be able to just copy the image of a fresh install if things go wrong, or if want to start over again. I know that doing this will only be good if the image goes on the same computer, which it will.
Anyway to do this?
Even if I could make a boot CD, copy the / partition to it, and then just use that to recreate my computer without having to go through the compile process. I know that I would have to re run grub, but that's painless compared to waiting for a day to have a computer...
thanks for any input,
Mike |

Try using dd. It can copy whole partitions. _________________ under construction |

Partimage or mondo may fit the bill. The latter has an ebuild (so does the former, but it is masked). |
