|
|
I was wondering, in what ways can Gentoo act as a domain controller for Windoze clients? Using Samba?
If someone has an explanation of this, or any info it would be much appreciated. I searched through the forums but couldn't find too much.
Thanks in advance! _________________ eXklusve

Yes, Gentoo can become a Domain Controller for Windows Clients with Samba.
For more info check out:

I have just done this myself, and I have Windows XP and Windows 2000 clients.
All I used was the doc AndiW provided.
Getting a domain attached shared printer working was a lot harder.
The only outstanding issue I have is dhcp/dynamic dns. |

Can I see your smb.conf ???
No matter what I do, I can't get WinXP computers to logon to the domains, but they join the domain fine.
Yes, I have applied every registry hack out there, no good. _________________ Queen Rocks. |

make sure that the smb machine and the "domain" name are different. In other words:
workgroup =
and
serverstring =
should be different. |

Be sure to be using Windows XP Professional, as Windows XP Home will not connect to a Primary domain controller.
It does file/internet sharing, because that would be a "Home type" network. It won't log on to domains, because people normally don't run domains in their household.
Well, thats what Microsoft thinks anyway. |

From the doc's
Quote: |
6.3.4 Windows XP Professional
To allow Windows XP Professional to join a Samba Domain, you will need to first make the following changes to your registry and reboot:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters]
"requiresignorseal"=dword:00000000
"signsecurechannel"=dword:00000000
Next, to join your Samba domain, follow the instructions (above) for Windows 2000 Professional.
If you find that Notepad starts with "[.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\System32\Shell32.dll,-21787" when you log into the Samba domain, please see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 330132. This is a non-Samba-related issue, although it comes up frequently.
