|
|
When I tried to install Gentoo, I got hung on the Ping functionality... Everytime I tried to ping a domain name (www.yahoo.com), I recieved an error message (unable to resolve host name), but I was able to ping external IP addresses, such as my ISPs DNS server. And I'm sure my DNS server is right (its the same on I used on my other computers, and they connect fine).
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,

Make sure that /etc/resolv.conf is set up correctly inside the chroot. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

That was it! Thanks...
Is that a common problem, for the net-setup prog to not correctly write to /etc/resolv.conf?
Thanks, again...

net-setup writes correctly to /etc/resolv.conf. But after you do a chroot your new /etc/resolv.conf (formerly /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf) does not automagickally contain the right information. Thats why the installation guide says that you should copy the correct file before doing a chroot.
