Im trying to emerge Gnome on my recently installed Amd64 3000+ 2GB RAM Gentoo. My Mobo is a LANParty NF4, with a SATA-II disk (SATA_NV module).
When I reach the point of emerging ghostscript, I get the following:
Code: |
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -I./src -o ./obj/../soobj/genarch ./src/genarch.c
./obj/../soobj/genarch ./obj/../soobj/arch.h
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_MKSTEMP -O2 -fPIC -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include -Wall -Wstrict-pro
totypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wmissing-prototypes -Wcast-qual -Wwrite-strings -fno-builtin -fno-common -I./obj/../soo
bj -I./src -o ./obj/../soobj/gp_getnv.o -c ./src/gp_getnv.c
Assembler messages:
FATAL: can't create ./obj/../soobj/gp_getnv.o: Input/output error
make[1]: *** [obj/../soobj/gp_getnv.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/ghostscript-7.07.1-r8/work/espgs-7.07.1'
make: *** [so] Error 2
!!! ERROR: app-text/ghostscript-7.07.1-r8 failed.

!!! make failed |
The system is left in an unstable state, since re issuing an emerge for ghostscript causes an inmediate kernel Aiee....
Any hints?
Sounds like it could be a memory problem? I rarn 9+ hours of memtest86 without any problems a couple of days ago...
Thabks in advance...

Sounds like your memory is probably fine, but you could run memtest again while you're sleeping or off doing something else, just to be on the safe side. Do you get a panic every single time with just this one emerge? What are your kernel
config settings for PCI, ACPI, etc.? _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
