Time for a new release, don't you think?

READ THIS FIRST
Nitro-sources is an experimental kernel patch set which is NOT supported by the Gentoo devs. If you have problems with something, see the problem persist with a kernel supported by Gentoo. If you still have the same problem with a kernel supported by Gentoo (like vanilla-sources), then fill a bug report at https://bugs.gentoo.org . If you only had the problem with 2.6.11-nitro2, and not with a vanilla kernel, then bug us in this thread.

Notes

No problem my friend. I just finished the howto and I'm going to create a sharper logo.
But first kernel update... ;)

Greets.

Yep, this kernel seems to boot just fine. I haven't tried the logo as I stay away from framebuffer stuff.

b3cks howto on logo hacking can be found here btw. The guide at http://www.gentoo-wiki.com seems to be outdated

2.6.11-nitro2 works fine here. I hope it will be such stable and fast as 2.6.11-nitro1 is.

I've got the logo a bit smoother.
You can easily replace the new with the old one. Just replace the new file with the "logo_nitro_clut224.ppm" file in your /usr/src/linux/drivers/video/logo/ dir, remove the "logo_nitro_clut224.c" and .o files and re-compile your kernel.

@seppe: You only need the "logo_nitro_clut224.ppm" in the logo dir. The other logo_nitro* files can be deleted. Just remember for the next release.

@hermes_jr: Thx!

Hi, i saw many stack sizes in this new release, so i have a question.
What is the best to Desktop?
What stacks do to the system?
I know reiserfs4 don't likes stack 4k...
Thanks.

Reiser4 requires large stacks, my general recommendation is use 8kb stacks.

New nitro works fine here too (nvidia 6111, swsup2). IMHO the staircase scheduler is better than the genetic one, at least in my use. Desktop is very responsive even under heavy-ish loads, and starting big apps doesn't grind the whole system down anymore.

We'll see how stable this is. I think the flak nitro-sources have been getting recently has been a little unnecessary. Granted, there was the little bit with the new license and video drivers in the patch, but I for one think it's usually a good idea to try out new ideas. And if they don't work you can abandon them. Kudos for the nitro-dev-team for responding to user requests. And if you don't like the nitro-sources, don't use them!

I have one request, though. If it's not too difficult, could you start including the acpi-dsdt-initrd patch (that was in the 2.6.9-series). I for one can't seem to get any battery level without the patch. The one at the site applies somewhat cleanly to the new nitro (with fuzzy offset), and seems to be working without any problems. Thanks.

If you have enabled fbsplash, try to disable it.

Hello, i have a little trouble with 2.6.11-nitro2 sources :( I've copied ebuild file and put it into my PORTAGE_OVERLAY direcory. Full ebuild path is /usr/local/portage/nitro-sources/nitro2/nitro2-2.6.11.ebuild. But when i emerge it with this command :
Code:

 emerge --oneshot nitro-sources/nitro2-2.6.11 --digest

emerge tryes download patch from this link http://www.sepi.be/nitro/2.6.11-nitro20/patch-2.6.11-nitro20.bz2.
I think trouble in this variable ${KV} but i can't find where it was defined!

I've replaced ${KV} variable on string 2.6.11-nitro2 and then ebuld was emerged successfully, but when i compilled kernel, genkernel copied new kernel to /boot dirrectory like kernel-2.6.11-nitro20. The kernel working good, but i cant understand how i can fix this little problem. Where is ${KV} variable defines!?
Thanks.

Forgive me seppe for I have sinned. It has been almost two weeks since my last confession, and in that time I was tempted into using love-sources.:(

Anyway, it's good to be back, and thank you for another great kernel.:D

Sparky: The path to the ebuild should be: /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources/nitro-sources-2.6.11-r2.ebuild

Then do:
Code:
ebuild /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources/nitro-sources-2.6.11-r2.ebuild digest
emerge nitro-sources

PS: fallow, I apolise. love-sources are excellent also, and I really don't want to start a flame war.
