|

Hey gang,
All of my experience has been on Gentoo x86 till now. Our company got a butt load of Sunfires and I have convinced them to put Gentoo on them.
Problem is, I have 80 Gig drives and the fdisk does not allow me to make larger disks when creating a sun disk.
In fdisk, it gives me the choice for cylinders and the max is 65k or so,. The specs for the Maxtor drive I have show 165k worth of cylinders.
Has anyone run into this?
I have the lates Live CD and was planning on doing a Stage1 install using a Stage 3 tarball.
Thanks,
Rob

Well, That's just it. If I put in a brand new hard drive, the first thins fdisk does is have me crest a sun disk.
When the choices come up and is asks you to put in the number of cyls, it says the max you can enter is 65K or so. The stats for the Maxtor hard drive I have says it has 165K cyls. Not sure what number to enter.
Entering 65K (tyhe max number) first I don't know if that is kosher, and second, I get 40 G max space.
I'll post my fdisk -p here. I need to get back to a blank drive and I'll post all of the steps.
thanks,
Rob |

I always just go with the defaults except for the rotational speed.
I have had no problems partitioning drives up to 250GB, and that is the largest I've tried. _________________ Grrr, can't think of anything clever right now, I'll go back and edit this later (9/12/2003) |

THanks gang,
I solved it by booting up Solaris 10 and partitioning the disk using that. Then installing Gentoo with the partitions I made.
Thanks. |
