If somebody could make a bootdisk with these things, then it would be possible to install gentoo without a cdrom drive.
The diskette has to have there utils:
wget
tar
chroot
fdisk
mke2fs
mkswap
That should be enough to get to the chroot part of the installation instruction, and thereby installing without a cdrom drive. _________________ Queen Rocks. |

Such disks already exist, they're called Debian's install disks
Download 'em from ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/woody/main/disks-i386/current/images-1.44/bf2.4/
It's a 6 disk set:
rescue.bin: The boot disk
root.bin: compressed root fs image (loaded into ramdisk)
4 driver disks: So you can get networking, etc. going.
The "bf" set I referenced includes a 2.4.X kernel w/ ext3 and reiserfs support so it's not totally crippled.
Just bail out of Debian's install program before installing the base system and untar a Gentoo stageX tarball instead and you're good to go.
Note/warning: I haven't actually tried this so I can't guarantee that it will work. So if you hose your system forget where you read this. |

I know.
Gentoo has to have its own diskettes, so it doesn't depend on debian. _________________ Queen Rocks. |

Uh... tomsrtbt disk should work fine too.. As should just about any floppy disk... That's one of the nice parts with gentoo, you don't need a special disk. Any unix boot disk should get you on your way getting it installed. |

Does this help?
I'll be expecting my copy of the gentoo boot diskette by the end of the week. _________________ Shoot Pixels Not People
