Some disks had errors on them so the way people got around it was to copy all of disk 1 and the big honking compressed file on each consecutive disk to a directory, then start the install that way. Maybe try that route?

i made a simbolic link in /home/josh/.wine/dosdevices that points to /mnt/cdrom that makes the installer think drive d: (the drive letter i chose) is the cdrom. that should make changeing cd work.

however i got it working once so i restarted the instal with that fix and it kept crashing. i have no idea how to fix it

Thanks for the help. I got install running under cedega. Just had to change to 24 bit color. Now I have to figure out why it just crashed on me. Getting it running is half the fun!

It's really too bad there's not a native Linux client for WoW. If there was I'd probably be playing it.

What kernel sources do you guys suggest for someone running an ATI card, athalon 3200, and wants to try to get the game running under wine and opengl? Or is the d3d + cedega worth bothering with?

Well I dont think it depends on kernel version. I think that wine requires 2.0.5 kernel or something like that to work.

I'm also having an ATI card, and xorg 6.8.1. Something here makes the configuration go wrong... (not detecting my openGL installation correctly) so I cant compile, not even with "./configure --enable-opengl"
    these things fixed!
Now there are some texture problems. I got less of the texture problems when I switched to same resolution in X and in-game. (almost fully playable)
    My Environment:
    HPxw4200 w. P3600 4GB ram etc.
    ATI EAX800XT (fglrx 8.10.19)
    2.6.10-1.770_FC3smp
    wine cvs 20050308

Are there any configurations (in wine or in WoW) that can help me get rid of these?

Since this is not an problem when I'm running the old (20050211) rpm release of wine, I have to wait until some friendly soul gives me an FC3 rpm with "wine 2005-02-25" or newer... (hint hint, out there! )

And... to all of you:

Saa: I would recommend ck-sources. Or anything based on ck.

thanqu0l: Not to get your hopes down or anything, but Blizzard will not release WoW for linux. They currently view wine as a third party addon and will not give you any sort of technical assistance if they know you're using it.

lenk: I can't update it for 4.3 because I don't have 4.3, nor do I plan on using it. Wine works perfectly with WoW now.

I wish that was true, but unfortunately it's not :( I would *really* love to just get rid of cedega and use Wine for all of my Windows app/game needs, but for some reason:

a. the wine cvs ebuild posted here doesn't completely work - I get an access violation error during make install. (minor gripe that I'm sure I'll fix whenever I have time to actually teach myself ebuilds)

b. when I copy over the files, WoW runs. However, it runs *way* less smoothly than it does in cedega, using any of the config files in this thread. WINE (WoW in OpenGL)- 8fps (800x600, no graphics settings). Cedega (WoW in DirectX): 15fps (1152x768 , all gfx turned on, custom ui mod). Any idea how I can fix this? My CPU is WAY out of the league of my video card (got AMD Athlon XP 1.5Ghz (1800+) and a Geforce2 TI) - could cedega somehow be using my cpu and doing some software rendering instead (although I'm still not convinced that this would be faster than just using OpenGL calls from Wine)?

Thanks :D

---
PS - as soon as I get Cedega 4.3, I can post an updated guide (minus install, but will include information on installing)

just a quick note running 20050211 the game will start patch but will crash with an error about being unable to render the minimap. i cant seem to get your wine-cvs ebuild working so im stumped until the next version of wine makes it to portage.

Well i'm finally playing WoW in cedega with everythign working well. I did notice one minor thing though and I dont know if this happens in d3d mode but the cirlces that are around the targetted object do not appear here. Is there an easy fix or should it be reported to either wine or cedega?

ok i found out palying around with the amount i am curantly able to play

that if you uncoment the line in your wine config file
Code:
"HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation"
you will have less hickups with your audio.

Here's the wine-cvs ebuild that I use which works perfectly (I just rebuilt it again today). Requires FEATURES="-sandbox" to work properly.

With Cedega 4.3, there are no more opengl related crashes

I'm getting 40-60fps, with shiny water and all in opengl without any minimap bug or anything

transgaming is doing a great job

oh, and d3d is alot better too

I jumped to Cedega 4.3 as well. WoW is running beautifully. To keep things simple, I dumped my old configs, reinstalled P2P, let P2P download Cedega then installed WoW and downloaded the latest Cosmos.

OpenGL have a positionning problem, the circle is just under the ground, that's why you don't see it... I did not heard of a fix yet.

PS: For Cedega 4.3, you still need the cfgmgr32 fix. But run just fine ;)

Monrake: Try adding
Code:
"HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation"
to your wine config in the [dsound] section.
