Hello there,
After updating a series of packages in my system, xine begun to fail me. It dies when I try to play any video stream.
| Code: | This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.9.23.
(c) 2000-2003 The xine Team.
xiTK received SIGSEGV signal, RIP.
Aborted |
I'm very clueless about this, any ideas (seems different from other xine threads, where people actually get more error information...)?
xine-lib-1_rc8-r1
xine-ui-0.9.23-r2
ps: mplayer works fine _________________ Hello.

I posted a bug report about this last night. Emerge ffmpeg with -pic and it'll start working again. At least it did on my computer.
Edit: nm the latest version doesn't allow that anymore. Fantastic...
Edit #2: commenting out this line in the ffmpeg ebuild allowed wmv/asf files to start working again for me:
epatch ${FILESDIR}/${PN}-libdir-pic.patch |

Hi there,
I found a different solution. I looked through my emerge.log, and after playing with emerge a bit, I found alsa-lib and alsa-header to be the problem.
Solution:
-Added this to /etc/portage/package.mask:
>media-sound/alsa-headers-1.0.7
>media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.7
-Re-emerged alsa-headers and alsa-lib. _________________ Hello. |

Yes, I agree it is odd... I am using built-in kernel drivers, maybe that's the problem? Somethings I rather not worry about too much as long as they work .
For some reason, I also had another problem with xine and fullscreen after downgrading alsa and had to upgrade to unstable xine-lib to fix it. I'd have to dig to see how deep the rabbit hole goes... _________________ Hello. |

Try to put video output to xshm to avoid problem with fullscreen...
Thx for the tip with alsa-lib and alsa-headers, but it sucks if it is not repaired in the future... |

I had exactly the same error. it helped me downgrading from alsa 1.0.8 to 1.0.7. Now everything works fine. It seemed that kmix had problems with also too. _________________ ______________________________________

alsa-lib-1.0.8 seems to be doing all sorts of unpleasant things; please see this topic: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-313030.html
