Hi,

I'm not really a gamer, but I do like to play once in a while. So I emerged Unreal Tournament (not 2k3). I used a windows CD, mounted it and the install went fine. When I try to run it I get this error:

Code:
Unreal engine initialized
Bound to SDLDrv.so
Joystick [0] : Unknown Joystick
SDLClient initialized.
Bound to Render.so
Lighting subsystem initialized
Rendering initialized
LoadMap: Entry
Bound to Fire.so
Case-insensitive search: Botpack -> ..\System\BotPack.u
Bound to IpDrv.so
appError called:
Class Actor Member Owner problem: Script=48 C++=52
Executing UObject::StaticShutdownAfterError
Executing USDLClient::ShutdownAfterError
Signal: SIGIOT [iot trap]
Aborting.
Exiting.
Name subsystem shut down

I searched the forums and found nothing that could help. I have opengl running fine, since I can play quake3 perfectly or counter strike under winex. My machine is a dual athlon MP 1.5+ system with a gforce 2 pro 64Mb ddr.

I tried to run as root cause of that weird "Member Owner problem" but I get the same exact problem, so i'm actually out of ideas. Can it be cause I used a windows cd?

Thanks in advance

is that the complete log file of the start up?

You can find it in /home/homedir/.loki/ut/System called UnrealTournament.log

also i don't know if this is it but do you have a nvidia card? If so are you useing the 41.91 drivers.

b/c when you use them u have to type this after every emerge/install
Code:

root#opengl-update nvidia

About the nvidia card, yes, I have a nvidia card and i'm using those drivers actually. I already did that (if I do recall, the ebuild does that at the end) but I get the exact same error.

Well, thanks for the tips anyway =)

Try reinstalling using the installer found here

use ut-install-436.run

i'm not sure what install the portage has. But this should work.

if i doesn't Go to the InfoGrames UT forums

and see if someone there can help you

PS i'll pm someone there who might be able to help

the ebuild for UT uses that installer with that particular version and also a patch for that version.

I'll take a look at the Infogrames UT forum, as you suggested and see if I can find answers. If not, I just found a cool mod for quake3 called Navy Seals wich is awsome, so Ut will have to wait =)

But thanks for all the help, really apreciated.

:x I've had this problem for like a few months and have yet to figure out what it is or how to fix it. I did find one thing where someone said they fixed it by using the correct .ini settings but conveniently they didn't say what the settings were.... I'm about to go mad... I noticed everyone that has the problem seems to have it with Nvidia cards, I'm bot buying another card, I'm not gonna use windows, and I don't want Mandrake or something crazy in here, I want my gentoo! I'm struggling to get a number of games to work, but right now my goals are UT and i'm gonna try Winex CVS. If ANYONE can help with this UT I'd greatly appreciate it.

P.S.- I get the same error :D

I installed ut and it worked right out of the box.
The trick was to use my already existing installation as install-source.
IIRC the Names-prob is because of compressed maps.
Try to decompress them with something like ucc or so...
Just google around for it.

Have you tried to decompress the maps?

The problem is that the map files are not decompressed......
Use this script to decompress the maps......

Not my doing but made by somebody on the news://loki.games.ut list

-------copy and past this bash script---------------
#!/bin/sh
# Change this to YOUR install-dir of UT
#
INSTALLDIR=/usr/local/games/ut

cd $INSTALLDIR/System

for i in `ls ../Maps/*.unr.uz`
do
ucc decompress ../Maps/$i -nohomedir
done

rm ../Maps/*unr.uz
mv *.unr ../Maps

echo "..:: Done! ::.."
-------copy and past this bash script---------------

ok I find this really strange. :D like it works! I reinstalled it so I could use that script you pasted and i tried ut just before i did it, it worked outta the BOX! lol. thanks though! I appreciate it! Now if my 15yr old IBM keyboard thAT i spIlled SUNNY DeLight on would stop messing up (as you can see) i could play more efficiently.
