No fonts found; this probably means that the fontconfig
library is not correctly configured. You may need to
edit the fonts.conf configuration file. More information
about fontconfig can be found in the fontconfig(3) manual
page and on http://fontconfig.org |

I copied verdana.ttf from /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/truetype to ~/.fonts
then it solved,
i don't get it, why gentoo setup (or whatever) requires at least one font file in ~/.fonts directory?

I doubt that "solved" it. Sounds like fontconfig is legitimately not set up correctly and when you put the veranda.ttf in .fonts pan was able to find a font to use but I dont think you will be able to get any of the other fonts on your system. |
