heya

I was able to emerge pysoulseek-0.4.9b just fine, but when I emerge the latest version I get :

Code: Select all

fat root # emerge pysoulseek
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) net-p2p/pysoulseek-0.4.10d to /
>>> md5 ;-) pyslsk-0.4.10d.tar.gz
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking pyslsk-0.4.10d.tar.gz
>>> Source unpacked.

(setup.py:31038): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

!!! ERROR: net-p2p/pysoulseek-0.4.10d failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 25, Exitcode 1
!!! compile failed
does anyone have an idea how to fix this ? this is on a 1.4_rc1 box, and I have tried to rebuild wxPython already.

Code: Select all

fat root # pkglist|grep wx
dev-python/wxPython-2.4.0.1
x11-libs/wxGTK-2.4.0
x11-libs/wxGTK-2.3.3

fat root # pkglist|grep -i py
dev-python/python-fchksum-1.6.1
dev-python/PyXML-0.7.1
dev-python/PyOpenGL-2.0.0.44
dev-python/wxPython-2.4.0.1
dev-lang/python-2.2.2
media-libs/pyogg-1.1
media-libs/pyvorbis-1.1
net-p2p/pysoulseek-0.4.9b

fat root # grep USE /etc/make.conf
USE="mmx 3dnow opengl xv X gtk gtk2 gnome sdl gif jpeg png tiff gd avi mpeg esd oss dvd xmms oggvorbis encode pam ssl crypt imap mozilla spell truetype pdflib samba zlib"
any info welcome :) thanx

I recommend installing it yourself from the pyslsk page. Just get the dependencies compiled using portage first. Pyslsk just needs to be uncompressed and it is ready to run. No compiling is needed for python programs. You will also get a much newer version than the one in portage

It says that it can't open a display to the X server.

Probably the easiest solution would be to sign on to your windows manager, e.g. KDE, with root. Then open a terminal window and emerge pysoulseek.

That's what I did.
