I heard of a problem with the kernel in 1.1a with 1 gig of ram for installs where it locks up new processes... I am now having that problem. Anyone know of a work-around |

I should be so lucky! I would hope the problem would go away once you have built your own kernel. You could try modifying the CD, or making your own boot disk where Grub will tell the kernel to behave as if it has less RAM available, append a parameter something like:
Hope that helps ... |

Hi,
well, I have 1 GB DDR ECC RAM (Registered) and had even on install no problem with the default kernel you get from the ISO (1.1a).
You have perhaps a bad RAM chip? is it one 1G RAM chip? or twice 512MB chips? Did you enable ECC (if supported by your chip)?
You should also try a mem check application to test your ram chip.
However, I'd recomment to compile your own kernel and/or to use the kernel option mem=256M anyway. This is a good chance/start to get rid of your probl.
