If I say pretend only, I get this:

Code:
# emerge -upv world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild     U ] sys-devel/bc-1.06-r6 [1.06-r5] -debug +readline -static 272 kB
[ebuild     U ] dev-libs/libxslt-1.1.12 [1.1.9-r1] +crypt +python 1,736 kB

That's fine.

If I ask for a deep there is an error in the dependancies requested:

Code:
# emerge -uDpv world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies |
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=media-libs/freetype-2.1.8" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- media-libs/freetype-2.1.9-r1 (masked by: ~sparc keyword)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
section 2.2 "Software Availability" in the Gentoo Handbook.

!!!    (dependency required by "x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1" [ebuild])

!!! Problem with ebuild sys-apps/man-pages-2.01
!!! Possibly a DEPEND/*DEPEND problem.

!!! Depgraph creation failed.

I don't have anything in /etc/portage related to xorg or freetype.
I'm running a 2.6.6 kernel and I have this in my package.keywords:
Code:
x11-misc/rss-glx        ~sparc
sys-kernel/development-sources       ~sparc
x11-misc/afbinit        ~sparc

Looking at the freetype I have installed currently, there are two!
Code:
# qpkg -I -v freetype
media-libs/freetype-1.3.1-r3 *
media-libs/freetype-2.1.5-r1 *

I'm also running an older version of xorg-x11 than deep is
considering:
Code:
# qpkg -I -v xorg-x11
x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4 *

Have I done some no-no or is this ebuild screwy?

I'm afraid no more analysis is possible.

I did another emerge sync a couple of hours later, and now
there are more updates available and emerge -uDpv world
runs without error.
